Laufen im Englischen Garten

Wie bitte? Ja, natürlich sieht man uns nicht laufen auf den Bildern. Das ist die schwer verdiente Erfrischung hinterher. Doch! Laufen waren wir auch ;-)

Isar on Bike

After breakfast on our balcony for the first time, we started on a bike tour along the Isar.

And met the rest of Munich there ...

... and in the beer gardens on the way.

God

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."
[Benjamin Franklin, probably misattributed]

(Bier ist der Beweis, dass Gott uns liebt und will, dass wir glücklich sind.)

Fortunately Duck is not a typical Beer Garden dish ;-)

Culinaria Bavaria

Beside the omnipresent beer, there are two essential cold snacks in Bavarian beer garden cuisine. One of them is the well-known and globally beloved pretzel (Bav. Brezn). Please refer to Wikipedia for more information about making, the unique form and nutritional value of this bavarian snack.

Beside the Pretzel, which is available also outside of the beer garden and through the whole year, there is a special dish almost exclusively limited to the beer gardens. The locally called Radi is a form of raw Radish eaten with salt. It is delightfully refreshing and said to have soothing effects on a hang-over.
It is usually cut by a hand driven apparatus which produces a long spiral of the white root easily eaten using your bare hand. Though silverware is generally available in a beer garden.

Beer Garden: Viktualienmarkt

Due to the exorbitant nice weather we got a second chance to experience the unique jovial atmosphere of a bavarian beer garden at lunch break.

This time we are at the Viktualienmarkt in the heart of Munich and enjoying Brezn and Beer.

Beer Garden: First Contact

In order to enjoy the nice weather at the moment, I biked together with my favourite colleague to a beer garden yesterday at lunch break. Unfortunately neither of us brought a camera, so I cannot publish any visual documents of this supreme moment of Bavarian lifestyle, beside this.

Sitting in view of the Chinese Tower in the Englischer Garten drinking Bavarian beer is a picturesque example of the international, tolerant and relaxed nature of the people here.

And no lunch tastes better than the first Brezn and a Maß beer at the beginning of beer garden season ;-)

Prost!
