J'essaye :-)

Weekend a Zuydcoote

In order to visit family and friends and check on the north sea we went for a weekend to Zuydcoote. Fortunately "visiting family/friends" in France always includes delicious meals, preceded by aperitif and accompanied by wine and/or champagner.
At these occasions I could make good use of my scarce french vocabulary, mainly "tres bon", "C'est delicieux", "Merci beaucoup pour le dinner" and "Mon dieu!!" due to my full belly :-D

To compensate for the food intake and create room for the next meal we went for walks in the dunes where I took the pictures.

And the north sea is still there by the way ;-)

New challenge

Partly to justify the purchase of a new bike and partly for self-motivation I registered for a Triathlon in a city close to Munich called Erding. The initiated will know the world-famous Erdinger Weissbeer. The brewery being a major sponsor, there will be free Weissbeer for the runners in the finish. Alcohol-free ;-)

And as Aude will get up with me that sunday morning anyway, she registered as well. Or maybe she did it for the beer ???

Doch! Laufen waren wir auch ;-)

New Future

Some of you might know that I planned to change my professional life a bit. After numerous interviews with a couple of different companies I have made a decision and will work for my new employer starting first of Mai. My new responsibilities will include C++ Software Development, so expect more C++ related and geeky articles ;-)

Bike Test

In order to properly assure the correct function and stability of Audes new bike, we developed a couple of stress and performance tests based on our prior experience with bicycles. The first and certainly on of the toughest is the China Test.
Mostly lacking motorized vehicles, Chinese people have to rely on their bicycle to transport all kinds of stuff, like families, toilets, washing machines and aquariums. So we successfully transported our brand new (Aldi) trash bin on Audes bike. To make matters worse we filled it with rolls of toilet paper!!
After passing this first hurdle we did an acceptance test. Will the, sometimes rather snobbish, Munich Bavarians approve of the new bike being parked in the very heart of town on a Saturday and amid the numerous BMWs? To prevent damage by outraged local citizens I stayed the first 15 minutes close by, watching the scene. But the expected éclat failed to appear. So the answer is: Yes! The bike is suitable for Munich downtown use!!

The next step was a compatibility test with local traditions and more country like environments. So we went to the Englischer Garden with its rough gravel paths, Sunday strollers, charging dogs and beer gardens. As you can imagine, this was a tough one as well and more than once I believed Aude, the bike or that little squeaking dog lost. But somehow even here, probably the most perilous place in town, Aude and her bike stayed master of the scene and showed strong nerves.

All in all we can say that the bike is worth every penny and made for the big city and its wild enclaves. In order to make it suitable for crossing the alps we plan to invest in a rear basket ;-)

Dauerversuch beendet

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd work and laugh forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days
[based loosely on Mary Hopkins, Those were the days]

Good-bye,
my friend

Things to do in Munich

Some views from our usual running track at the Isar. Munich life is great so far, especially if the weather is as nice as on the pictures.

This week we plan to go to the climbing hall, which is apparently the best in Germany.

On the weekend we sometimes go to the Kultfabrik, which is a former factory complex housing loads of clubs and pubs now. It's fine there, but not super. If someone has more tips where to go out in Munich, let me know!

If Sauna is your kind of thing, there is a nice one not too far from our place and a big one offering loads of different ways and temperatures to sweat ;-)

And of course there are beer gardens and I am hoping that the weather will stay like this, so we can visit one soon.

Birthday in Zuydcoote

French Test:
Does the picture on the left indicate, that

a) you can reach the circus Cobergher by mail using only this post box?
b) the (flea) circus Cobergher lives in this yellow post box?
c) whoever took that silly picture is a computer guy, cause everone else would take pictures of the sea?

Here you go :-D !

Note the nice weather! Contrary to common believe (of a certain stroumpfette), the sun does shine occasionally in the north of France ;-)

Muenchen wir kommen/Munich we're coming

jede Stadt in Deutschland gilt.
